routine labor and birth supplies
To keep out of hospital birth safe for mama and baby, we care for healthy low risk mamas. We are unable to accept women that have had a previous cesarean section, body mass index > 35, grand multips with > 5 births, or women with significant medical conditions requiring medications. The criteria for women to be clients at the birth center include a desire for birth center birth, anatomy ultrasound, group beta step testing and treatment if +, and attendance of classes at the birth center. As we all know, circumstances and health status may change as we move through our pregnancies. If you develop any conditions that require transfer to a hospital based practice or you choose to transfer care we will assist you through this process.
collaborative care – All providers and staff play a role to ensure the best possible care for mama and baby. We recognize that we are only one piece of the puzzle to ensuring safe, quality care. We believe that health professionals working in a collaborative model ensures optimal outcomes for mamas, babies, and families. Our primary obstetrical consultants are two amazing perinatologists who will also perform all of our ultrasound needs at Boulder Community Health. We consult with many other providers throughout Boulder and the surrounding area on an as needed basis.
our commitment – We agree to stay current in all aspects of evidence based care in order to provide you with the highest quality of care.
your commitment – We expect you to be open and honest about your health history and any current health issues you are experiencing. The safety of birth center birth is based on the premise that you are a healthy woman experiencing a normal pregnancy. This means that during labor things are proceeding normally, babe’s heart rate is strong and steady, and the immediate postpartum period is normal for both mama and baby. The foundation of our relationship depends upon trust and open communication. We want you to actively participate in your care and ask as many questions as needed to feel knowledgeable and confident.

insurance policies & larsen billing service
At The Birth Center of Boulder, we believe in transparency and honesty in all our interactions – especially financial. Talking about money is often uncomfortable and awkward but we know that by being clear about payment plans and financial expectations, we can ease a great deal of stress and anxiety.
As a health care consumer, you should know your birth options and the costs of each. An average non complicated hospital birth costs $24,000 while the birth center is far less than this. By understanding your insurance benefits, our financial policy, and the cost of our services – you will be able to make an informed choice about how you want to spend your healthcare dollars. For more information, our complete financial policy and deposit on services can be found here.
larsen billing service
We have partnered with Larsen Billing Service, an off site billing agency. Larsen Billing is responsible for submitting all claims to your insurance and following up to ensure that you get the best reimbursement possible. Each client (except for Medicaid, Tricare, Kaiser, and no insurance), will need to register with Larsen Billing to verify insurance benefits. The verification of benefits costs $20 and can be completed on the Larsen Billing website (our provider pin is 14059).
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (PPOs)
Cigna (HMO, Select, POS, PPO and OAP)
all other insurance
You will need to verify your benefits through Larsen Billing (our provider pin is 14059). Once you have verified your benefits, the birth center administrative staff will set up a payment plan based on our cash pay price. Complete deposit on services is due by 36 weeks of pregnancy. When the birth center receives reimbursement from your insurance company, we will promptly release your deposit on services.
Our preferred lab is Genpath. Not all insurances are in network in Genpath. before your appointment, please contact Lynda at 719-510-9491 or your insurance to confirm that your plan is in-network with Genpath. If you need the birth center to send your blood work, pap smears, etc. to another lab we can facilitate that – please let your provider know when labs are drawn.
Insurance and payments can be complicated – please call Elizabeth or Marian to discuss your individual questions – 303.443.3993
